Manipur Police, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has launched a community-driven initiative titled ‘HinChi’—meaning Seeds of Life—in Churachandpur district, aiming to promote sustainable livelihoods and curb illicit poppy cultivation.
Under the initiative, three vulnerable areas identified for illegal poppy farming were targeted. Authorities engaged extensively with village chiefs and 127 beneficiary households, encouraging them to shift towards lawful and sustainable income sources through alternative cash crops.
The programme received a financial boost of ₹28 lakh under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from Segula Technologies. With this support, around 55,000 kilograms of ginger seeds, 450 kilograms of pea seeds, and 6,500 banana saplings were distributed among the beneficiaries.
To ensure long-term success, joint teams of Manipur Police, NCB, and local NGO NARPS will conduct regular monitoring. The teams will also provide guidance on post-harvest management and help farmers establish market linkages.
The ‘HinChi’ initiative reflects a collective effort to transform vulnerable communities by replacing illicit practices with sustainable opportunities, paving the way for a safer and self-reliant future.
