Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday called for efforts to achieve 100% literacy in the state while addressing the ULLAS Fest 2026 held in Shillong.

The Chief Minister stated that learning has no age limit and encouraged participation in adult education initiatives under the ULLAS programme. The scheme, ULLAS Scheme, focuses on functional literacy and lifelong learning through volunteer-based and hybrid learning methods, including basic education, digital skills, financial literacy, and vocational training.

During the event, learners from different age groups were present, and achievers under the ULLAS programme were also felicitated for their contributions.

Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui stated that around 2 lakh people in Meghalaya remain illiterate, noting ongoing efforts to expand literacy coverage in the state.

The event was held in Shillong as part of broader state-level initiatives linked to the goal of improving literacy outcomes across Meghalaya.
