Shillong, Jan 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support to the state’s development, responding to the Prime Minister’s Statehood Day greetings.
In a post on X, Sangma said the Prime Minister’s encouragement reflected confidence in Meghalaya and the Northeast as contributors to India’s growth. He stated that the state remains committed to contributing to national development goals.
Earlier, Modi extended Statehood Day greetings to the people of Meghalaya, highlighting the state’s natural landscape, cultural heritage, and the traditions of the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia communities. He referred to values such as respect for nature, social harmony, and women empowerment.
The Prime Minister also noted that development in the Northeast had gathered pace in recent years, citing increased engagement with the region. He referred to Meghalaya’s role in hosting G20-related events and assured support for the upcoming National Games, including assistance for sports infrastructure, talent development, and promotion of music and arts.
Modi also remembered former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma on his 10th death anniversary.
