Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the Cultural and Tourism Amenities for the Nongkrem Dance at Lum Pomblang and Madan Syiem, Smit. The initiative aims to promote and preserve one of Meghalaya’s most significant tribal traditions.

Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said the government remains committed to safeguarding the cultural heritage of the state’s tribal communities. He noted that during his visit to the site three and a half years ago, it was evident that the rituals and traditions of the Nongkrem Dance required greater support and recognition.
“The inauguration reflects our commitment to strengthening cultural pride, enhancing community spaces, and promoting cultural tourism that benefits local custodians of tradition,” the Chief Minister added.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the state government to preserve and promote the identity and heritage of Meghalaya’s tribal communities.
