Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced on Tuesday that the state government will invest over Rs 1000 crore to develop sports infrastructure across the state. The announcement was made during an outreach program in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills.
Sangma assured the public that the government is committed to improving sports facilities, particularly in rural areas, and will collaborate with local communities to establish these infrastructures. The initiative aims to foster sports talent and engage youth in the state.
During the ‘CM Connect’ program, various local issues were raised, including road and bridge development, healthcare services, tourism infrastructure, and the upgrading of schools. The Chief Minister directed concerned departments to take prompt action on these issues.
Sangma also highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen existing healthcare centers and provide grants to non-profit organizations for infrastructure improvement. He confirmed plans to upgrade the Nongstoin Civil Hospital.
In response to concerns about road development, the Chief Minister announced that several road projects would be initiated under the CM Rural Connect program. He further assured that he would discuss interest subvention for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with the Union Finance Minister.
This ‘CM Connect’ session marked the fifth such outreach program, aimed at engaging directly with the public and addressing their concerns.
