Aizawl, June 17: The Inter-Group Under-17 Girls Pre-Subroto Cup concluded on Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Mualpui with the Aizawl Group crowned champions after defeating the Guwahati Group 2-0 in the final. The closing ceremony was graced by Mizoram’s Sports & Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, who attended as Chief Guest.
In his address, the Minister emphasized that athletes from the North East continue to be India’s pride in football, noting the steady rise of women’s participation in the sport nationwide. He extended his best wishes to the young players, encouraging them to aim for excellence and represent India at the highest levels.
The tournament, organized by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) North Eastern Region Directorate, featured eight groups representing different zones of the region: Silchar, Aizawl, Kohima, Jorhat, Guwahati, Shillong, Tezpur, and Dibrugarh. After days of spirited competition, the final standings placed Aizawl Group at the top, followed by Guwahati, Shillong, and Jorhat. Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Silchar, and Kohima completed the rankings.
The event not only showcased the growing strength of women’s football in the North East but also highlighted the role of NCC in nurturing grassroots talent and fostering unity through sport.
