Nagaland Governor Presents Governor’s Award 2025 For Excellence In Arts, Music, And Literature

Kohima, Feb 2: Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla described arts, music, and literature as “the soul of our people and living memory of our history” during the Governor’s Award 2025 ceremony at Lok Bhavan here on Monday.

Addressing an audience that included Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, legislators, senior officials, and guests, Bhalla highlighted that investing in creativity strengthens society’s conscience and shapes its future. He said artists, musicians, and writers act as custodians of heritage and innovators of new ideas, linking tradition with modernity while preserving cultural roots. He added that creativity promotes unity and contributes to a peaceful, progressive society.

The Governor presented awards to five recipients: Mannyei Konyak (Arts – Sculpture and Woodwork), Guru Rarenbenba (Arts – Performing Arts), Colored Keys (Music), Moko Koza (Music), and Vishü Rita Krocha (Literature).

Secretary of the Department of Art & Culture, Bodeno S Colo, noted that the awards, initiated in 2003, are among the state’s top cultural honors. She explained the transparent selection process, conducted from district to state levels.

The event featured citations, artwork displays, live performances in arts and music, and a literary reading, showcasing the richness of Naga culture. Congratulating the winners, Governor Bhalla said the awards serve as milestones, emphasizing the importance of mentoring youth and sustaining cultural discourse. He also thanked families, mentors, and institutions for nurturing excellence.
