Nagaland: One Dead, Several Injured Following Pre-Poll Violence In Mokokchung Ahead Of By-Election

Kohima, April 6: Tension has gripped parts of Mokokchung district following incidents of pre-poll violence in Longkhum and Mangmetong villages ahead of the upcoming by-election. Clashes between supporters of BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen and independent candidate Major Toshikaba (Retd) left one person dead and several others injured.

According to police, stone-pelting broke out in Longkhum village, injuring three people. Sixteen individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. One of the injured, Imrongsungba Imchen, later succumbed to his injuries while being referred for advanced treatment in Dimapur. Authorities said the situation is now under control but remains tense.

Meanwhile, in Mangmetong village, around 12 vehicles were vandalised yesterday morning. During search operations, police recovered arms and ammunition, and one suspect was arrested.

Security forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation, as the district braces for the upcoming by-election amid heightened political tensions.
