Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Pushes for Connectivity, Climate-Resilient Infrastructure at NITI Aayog Meet

Agartala, June 12, 2026: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Friday highlighted the state’s development achievements and future aspirations during an interaction programme between NITI Aayog and the Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries of the North-Eastern States in New Delhi.

Addressing the gathering, Tamang showcased Sikkim’s recent recognition as a Fully Literate State and outlined the government’s efforts in environmental conservation, education, women’s empowerment, mental health, and sustainable development under the ambitious Sikkim Vision 2047 framework.

The Chief Minister said the state aims to build a USD 70 billion economy by promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and evidence-based governance. He also stressed Sikkim’s goal of emerging as a leading destination for healthcare, wellness, and high-value tourism.

Focusing on infrastructure and connectivity, Tamang sought the support of the Centre and NITI Aayog for strengthening road, air, rail, and digital networks across the state. He called for the restoration of regular flight operations at Pakyong Airport and urged the expeditious completion of the Sivok–Rangpo Railway Project. He also proposed railway connectivity to the upgraded Bagdogra Airport to ensure seamless multimodal transportation for Sikkim and the wider region.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the need for climate-resilient infrastructure in North Sikkim, extension of the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) beyond 2027, strengthening border trade infrastructure, and addressing demographic challenges confronting the state.

Reaffirming Sikkim’s commitment to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, Tamang expressed confidence that continued support from the Government of India and NITI Aayog would enable the Himalayan state to emerge as a model of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development.
