Gangtok, May 16: The Power Department, Government of Sikkim, has reported a power disruption in parts of Gangtok following an incident involving a heavy vehicle near Indira Bye Pass Road on Saturday around 4:00 AM.

According to the department, a truck fell into a gorge near Indira Bye Pass Road, which led to the tripping of the 11 kV IBP (Local) feeder. During inspection, damage to electrical infrastructure was identified as a result of the incident.

Officials stated that after necessary circuit arrangements, the affected feeder was successfully recharged. However, power supply to the Gandey Jhora 315 kVA Sub-Station, Police Barrack 500 kVA Sub-Station, and the 33 kV Sichey–DPH line could not be restored and has been isolated at present. The department also suspects possible damage to underground cables in the affected area.

Assessment of the damage is currently underway, and restoration work is being carried out on priority, the department said.

Areas affected include Indira Bye Pass near Gandey Jhora and the Police Barrack locality in Gangtok.

The department has stated that efforts are ongoing to restore normal power supply, and regretted the inconvenience caused to consumers.
