Gangtok, Jan 29: Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister of Sikkim TT Bhutia attended Wings India 2026, Asia’s largest civil aviation exhibition and conference, held at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad on January 28.
The biennial event brought together policymakers, aviation regulators, airlines, aircraft manufacturers, airport operators, investors, startups and international delegations to discuss the future of civil aviation.
During the event, the minister took part in policy dialogues, interactive sessions and B2B and B2G meetings focusing on regional air connectivity, sustainable aviation, airport development, heli-services, advanced air mobility and aviation-led tourism growth. He also visited static and flying aircraft displays and aviation technology exhibitions, and interacted with industry leaders showcasing developments in green aviation, digital air navigation, training, maintenance, repair and overhaul services, and sustainable aviation fuel.
The minister held discussions with representatives from airlines, airport developers and aviation service providers on improving last-mile air connectivity, strengthening heliport and helicopter services, and enhancing access to remote and hilly regions such as Sikkim. These discussions were aimed at linking civil aviation growth with tourism development and regional economic expansion.
Speaking during interactions at the event, the minister highlighted the vision of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), which focuses on responsible expansion of civil aviation infrastructure, improved regional connectivity and sustainable development. The vision seeks to position Sikkim as a well-connected and eco-sensitive tourism destination while preserving its Himalayan environment.
Wings India 2026 also featured CEO roundtables, investor meetings, startup showcases and international cooperation sessions, providing insights into emerging trends, policy reforms and investment opportunities in the aviation sector. Officials said participation in such forums helps Sikkim align with national initiatives including the UDAN scheme, heli-connectivity programmes and evolving civil aviation policies.
The Sikkim government said it remains committed to working with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and industry stakeholders to use civil aviation as a driver for tourism promotion, economic development and improved connectivity across the state.
