The Working Committee (WC) of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned an alleged premeditated attack on Naga Village Guards at Ringui Horei Kaphung early Monday by suspected Kuki Militants, expressing deep concern over what it termed as a recurring pattern of violence following combing operations by Central Security Forces.
In a statement, the TNL claimed that similar incidents have occurred in recent days, citing an April 28 combing operation at Lungter Hills in Sinakeithei that was allegedly followed by an attack on a nearby village the same evening. It questioned whether such operations were effectively targeting militants or merely serving as “optics.”
The TNL further alleged that a combing operation conducted on April 30 in and around Ringui, with security forces stationed at Shongphel and Mullam villages, was followed by firing incidents on May 2 along NH-202 near Yaolen village. It claimed that while defensive structures of Naga Village Guards were dismantled during subsequent operations, no action was taken against alleged militant positions in Yaolen despite requests.
The statement also referred to an earlier April 5 incident in Thoyee village, where it alleged that security forces destroyed defensive bunkers a day after the village came under attack, without acting against the perpetrators.
Maintaining that Naga Village Guards have acted only in self-defence, the TNL accused Central Security Forces of failing to protect vulnerable areas and alleged bias in their operations. It further made serious allegations of intelligence leaks and complicity, claiming that such actions have emboldened armed groups.
The Working Committee of TNL warned that continued inaction could force the Naga community to seek international intervention, while urging authorities to ensure impartial enforcement of security measures and protection of civilians in conflict-affected areas.
There was no immediate response from security forces regarding the allegations.
