Agartala, June 02, 2026: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday highlighted the growing importance of cricket in shaping character, promoting national unity, and strengthening sports culture in Tripura. Speaking at a programme for the distribution of cricket kits to young players, he said cricket is not merely a sport but a platform that instills discipline, punctuality, leadership qualities, and teamwork among youth.

Stressing the significance of collective effort in the game, the Chief Minister noted that no player can secure victory single-handedly and that success is achieved through teamwork and coordination. He also underscored cricket’s unique ability to unite people across religious, linguistic, and social backgrounds under a common national identity.

Expressing confidence in Tripura’s sporting potential, Dr. Saha said the state has produced several talented athletes and cricketers. He praised the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) for its contribution to player development and revealed that plans for a dedicated cricket academy are progressing, with land already identified for the project.

The Chief Minister further stated that the government is closely monitoring the construction of the cricket stadium and is committed to ensuring its timely completion. During the programme, 108 cricket kits were distributed with support from SBI under its CSR initiative and the TCA, benefiting young cricketers and institutions across the state.
