Agartala, May 16, 2026: Tripura is steadily moving towards greater adoption of renewable energy, with solar power systems set to be installed in the offices of the Sabhadhipatis of all eight districts within the current month. The announcement was made by Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath after the 29th Governing Body meeting of the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency held at Gitanjali Guest House on Friday.
The Minister informed that the meeting was attended by the Sabhadhipatis of all eight districts, who are members of TREDA’s Governing Committee, along with senior officials including the Secretary of the Power Department and the Director of TREDA. The meeting reviewed the implementation status of earlier decisions and outlined future plans for strengthening renewable energy initiatives in the state.
Highlighting the government’s focus on power infrastructure, Nath stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently praised Tripura’s renewable energy initiatives during his Mann Ki Baat address. He said the Prime Minister particularly mentioned the success of solar microgrids in Reang-inhabited areas of the state.
The Minister further claimed that Tripura currently ranks first in the country under the PM-KUSUM Scheme and asserted that the state government is determined to retain the top position. According to him, the scheme has significantly benefited farmers by ensuring productive use of agricultural land and encouraging vegetable cultivation.
He informed that against the target of installing 10,000 units under the PM-KUSUM scheme, around 5,000 units have already been completed. Work has reportedly covered nearly 4,000 kani of land, while additional projects are underway.
Referring to the PM-DevINE Scheme, Nath said solar-powered microgrids are supplying free electricity to previously unelectrified areas, while drinking water facilities are also being developed.
The Minister added that solar panels had already been installed in the offices of District Magistrates in all eight districts, and a fresh decision was taken during the meeting to extend similar solar power facilities to the offices of the district Sabhadhipatis within this month as part of Tripura’s broader transition towards green and clean energy.
