Agartala, April 23, 2026: The Tripura High Court has issued a show-cause notice to the State Government over the non-regularization of Anganwadi workers and helpers, directing it to clarify its position within a stipulated timeframe.

During the hearing, the Court questioned why Anganwadi workers and helpers—many of whom have been serving for years—should not be absorbed into permanent posts or have their services regularized. The Bench sought a clear explanation from the government on the delay in addressing their employment status.

Counsel for the petitioners, Purushottam Roy Barman, told reporters that despite their long years of service, Anganwadi workers and helpers continue to be deprived of benefits available to regular government employees. He stated that the writ petition was filed to secure their legitimate entitlements.

The petitioners have argued that until their services are regularized, the principle of equal pay for equal work should be implemented to ensure fair compensation.

The counsel further pointed out that the High Court had earlier ruled in favor of granting gratuity to Anganwadi workers and helpers. Although the State Government appealed before a Division Bench, the verdict was upheld, reinforcing the workers’ claims. However, despite these judicial directions, their demands remain unresolved.

It was also alleged that since 2017, Anganwadi workers and helpers have not been receiving Dearness Allowance (DA), unlike other state government employees. While their basic honorarium was revised prior to 2017, they have reportedly been excluded from DA benefits since then.

The case is expected to come up for further hearing after the State Government submits its response.
