Agartala, June 04, 2026: TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has called for stringent measures to address illegal migration into Tripura, expressing optimism that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will give priority to the issue during his visit to the state.
Speaking ahead of the Home Minister’s two-day visit, Debbarma said that Amit Shah is scheduled to inspect security arrangements along the India-Bangladesh international border and hold discussions with officers of various wings of the Border Security Force (BSF). He is also expected to hold a separate meeting with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha during his stay in the state.
Debbarma revealed that he had recently submitted a detailed report to the Union Home Minister regarding the issue of illegal migrants entering Tripura. According to him, attempts by Bangladeshi nationals to infiltrate the state continue to remain a matter of concern, and the issue has already received official attention from the authorities.
He welcomed the state government’s firm stand against illegal migration and expressed hope that the Home Minister would thoroughly review the security situation in the border areas. Debbarma stressed that the demographic structure of Tripura has undergone significant changes over the years due to the influx of illegal migrants from across the border.
The TIPRA Motha legislator urged both the Centre and the state government to take stronger and more effective action to curb illegal infiltration. He said that ensuring robust border security and addressing the issue of undocumented migrants are essential for safeguarding the interests of Tripura and maintaining demographic balance in the state.
Debbarma expressed confidence that the Home Minister’s visit would provide an opportunity for a comprehensive review of border management and the challenges posed by illegal migration in Tripura.
