Agartala, April 27, 2026: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha Party and MDC, has proposed a series of organisational and policy changes aimed at strengthening grassroots democracy and empowering youth across Tripura.

Speaking after holding consultations with party members and supporters over the past few days in Facebook live on Sunday, Debbarma said he had received multiple suggestions regarding the selection process for Village Committee (VC) members. He noted that one prevailing idea was to allow zonal and sub-zonal leaders, including chairmen, to nominate themselves for VC positions following a Supreme Court verdict, with elections expected in June.

However, Debbarma emphasized the need for a shift in approach. “If we want to build a new Tiprasa society, we must think differently,” he said. He proposed that individuals who are elected by the people in VC elections should be given priority for leadership roles at the sub-zonal level, rather than those selected through recommendations. According to him, this would ensure that grassroots workers who have public support are adequately represented within the party structure.

In addition to organisational reforms, Debbarma highlighted the need to push for changes in the education policy. He announced plans to form a dedicated team within the next 8–10 days that will travel across Tripura, including areas under ADC and EDC, to raise awareness and mobilise people.

He further stressed that the initiative would involve youth from various organisations, including TSF, BSM, and the Chakma Youth Society, giving them direct responsibility in shaping the movement. “Real transformation in politics will come only when young people take charge,” he asserted.

Debbarma also assured logistical and financial support for volunteers engaged in the outreach programme, covering travel and basic expenses.

Reaffirming his commitment to youth engagement, he said he would soon meet youth leaders to discuss the roadmap ahead, expressing confidence that meaningful political transformation would be driven by the people themselves.
