Agartala, April 24, 2026: A high-level review meeting of the STAR NCD research project was held today at the State Secretariat in Agartala, reaffirming the Health Department’s commitment to achieving 100 percent screening coverage for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across Tripura.

The STAR NCD project—an implementation research initiative—is being carried out jointly by the National Centre for Chronic Disease Control, AIIMS New Delhi, Agartala Government Medical College & GBP Hospital, and the National Health Mission, Tripura. The project aims to strengthen healthcare services under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases.

The meeting was attended by Mission Director of NHM Tripura Saju Vaheed A, Director of Health Services Dr. Debasri Debbarma, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Dr. Anjan Das, Joint Mission Director Dr. Nupur Debbarma, along with senior scientists from the National Centre for Chronic Disease Control, representatives from AIIMS Delhi and Agartala Government Medical College, and other senior officials.

During the review, officials highlighted significant progress in NCD management across the state. Free medicines for hypertension and diabetes are now being ensured, while diagnostic capabilities have been strengthened through the installation of semi-auto analyzers at Block Public Health Units. A structured supervisory mechanism has also been put in place to maintain quality healthcare delivery at various levels.

The meeting noted active involvement of Panchayati Raj Institutions in monitoring healthcare services. Efforts are underway to extend NCD screening services to cover the entire population, with a strengthened portal-based system enabling effective patient tracking and disease management.

Officials further informed that an integrated data entry and hospital management system using artificial intelligence will be introduced in the future to streamline monitoring of medicine supplies. The STAR NCD team has recommended maintaining an uninterrupted stock of essential medicines to address emergency needs and ensure easy access to free treatment.

The research team also praised the state government’s Mukhyamantri Niramoy Arogya Abhiyan, noting that it has significantly improved early detection and treatment of non-communicable diseases, particularly hypertension and diabetes. The initiative has also contributed to greater health awareness among residents in urban slums and hilly regions.

The information was shared through an official press release issued by the National Health Mission, Tripura.
