Agartala, April 13, 2026: A shocking incident in the Chandrapur Beltali area of Udaipur has left the locality in deep grief and panic after a school teacher allegedly killed his wife and son before attempting to take his own life in the early hours of Monday.

According to preliminary reports, Ajit Das, a science teacher at a local school in Batali, allegedly attacked his wife Rupa Das (45) and their son Diganta Das (18) while they were asleep, using a stick. Both victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

Residents of the area rushed to the house after hearing screams early in the morning, but by the time they arrived, the incident had already unfolded.

A family member, Narayan Chandra Das, stated that Ajit Das had reportedly been suffering from mental health issues over the past few days. Following the incident, the accused allegedly consumed poison in an apparent suicide attempt.

He was immediately rushed to Gomati District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said his condition remains critical.

On receiving information, police personnel from Radha Kishorepur police station, along with senior officials, reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Police are probing the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.

The gruesome incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire Udaipur area, with residents struggling to come to terms with the loss.
