Agartala, June 10, 2026: Tripura is set to receive a major boost for rural development and employment generation after the Union Government announced a substantial allocation of ₹1,041.07 crore under its upcoming Viksit Bharat GRAMG initiative. The announcement was made during a virtual review meeting chaired by Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with Rural Development Ministers of various States and Union Territories.

The meeting reviewed preparations for the rollout of the new programme, which aims to strengthen rural employment, improve infrastructure, and create durable community assets across villages. The initiative is designed to complement the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for self-reliant and prosperous rural communities.

The Centre has already allocated ₹30,000 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and released an interim fund of ₹95,692.31 crore to States and Union Territories. With this, the total funding support for rural employment and development activities has crossed ₹1.25 lakh crore.

Among the northeastern states, Assam received the highest allocation of ₹1,929.24 crore, followed by Meghalaya with ₹1,155.09 crore and Tripura with ₹1,041.07 crore. The funds are expected to support rural infrastructure projects, water conservation measures, livelihood enhancement programmes, and community asset creation.

The Union Minister emphasized that employment opportunities, wage payments, and worker benefits must continue uninterrupted during the transition to the new framework. He urged States to prepare a sufficient pipeline of projects to ensure immediate implementation and sustained employment generation.

The Centre also highlighted the importance of digital readiness, including Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), e-KYC, and face authentication systems, while encouraging States to intensify awareness and capacity-building programmes ahead of the scheme’s rollout.
