Fresh violence erupted along the Imphal-Ukhrul road on Friday after a truck driver was reportedly killed in firing near TM Kasom on NH-202 under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district.

According to reports, suspected Kuki armed miscreants opened fire from the Patleijang area towards TM Kasom at around 11 am. The truck driver was reportedly hit while travelling from TM Kasom towards Ukhrul.

Following the incident, security forces including the Army and BSF launched operations in the area, while further details are awaited.

Earlier in the day, central security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse a blockade on the NH-202 highway at Sangkai Kuki Khul, where Kuki bandh volunteers were allegedly attempting to block the movement of supplies and goods-carrying vehicles.

Several loaded trucks were seen stranded along the highway amid the unrest.

Reports also said a confrontation broke out between bandh volunteers and security personnel in the Litan area, leaving some individuals injured. The situation in the area remains tense.
