Shillong, June 15: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari arrived in Shillong on Monday to attend the North East Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition and participate in events related to infrastructure development and road connectivity in the region.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma welcomed the Union Minister upon his arrival in the state capital. In a message shared on social media, Sangma said he was glad to welcome Gadkari to Shillong for the North East Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition.
During his visit, Gadkari is scheduled to participate in the CEOs Round Table at the North East India Infrastructure (NEIINFRA) Summit and Exhibition being held at the Lariti Performing Arts Centre. The summit serves as a platform for discussions on infrastructure development, investment opportunities and regional growth, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and other stakeholders.
Later in the day, the Union Minister will preside over the dedication to the nation and foundation stone laying ceremony of several National Highway projects at Polo Ground, Shillong.
According to officials, the highway projects are expected to improve road connectivity, facilitate the movement of goods and people, enhance access to remote areas and contribute to the socio-economic development of Meghalaya and the wider North Eastern Region.
