Agartala, June 12, 2026: Assam’s Rajya Sabha MP Kanak Purkayastha participated in a series of programmes across Tripura, highlighting the achievements of the NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasizing collective efforts towards building a developed and self-reliant India.
Purkayastha attended the “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Convention” at Kajaria Community Hall in Sepahijala district, where he spoke about the vision behind the initiative and the importance of public participation in achieving the goal of “Viksit Bharat 2047”.

He said, “This significant event was organized with the resolve to further advance the unprecedented progress achieved over the past 12 years under the leadership of respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji in areas such as national development, self-reliance, good governance and public welfare initiatives.”
He added that the convention provided an opportunity to understand various people-centric schemes of the government, the roadmap for development and the role of citizens in transforming India into a strong, prosperous and developed nation.

During his visit, Purkayastha also participated in the Pragati Path Yatra at the ongoing construction site of the Unity Mall campus in Agartala along with BJP Tripura Pradesh workers. Highlighting the importance of the project, he said the Unity Mall reflects the vision of “Vocal for Local” and “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” by promoting indigenous handicrafts, GI-tagged products and One District One Product (ODOP) items from across the country. The Rs 150 crore project is expected to be completed by 2027.

He also joined a tree plantation programme at Tripura University campus and met Registrar Samir Kumar Sil to discuss issues related to the university. As part of his public outreach activities, Purkayastha met educationist and technical expert Harjeet Nath, Faculty of Chemical and Polymer Engineering, and felicitated him for his contribution to education.
The MP also met Dronacharya Awardee coach Bisweswar Nandi and appreciated his contribution to sports. Later, he visited Tripura’s International Cricket Stadium at Narsingarh, where he interacted with officials of the Tripura Cricket Association and participated in a plantation drive.

Purkayastha said the development of sports infrastructure and support for athletes reflects the government’s commitment towards nurturing talent across the country.
On Wednesday evening, he met BJP Tripura Pradesh President Abhishek Debroy and other party functionaries at the BJP State Office in Agartala and discussed organisational matters.
