Agartala, May 30, 2026: Aparna Debbarma, a member of Kwbwi Self-Help Group (SHG) under Rang Twisa Village Organization and Dopha Hamkwrai Cluster Level Federation in Hezamara Block of West Tripura, has emerged as a successful rural entrepreneur, becoming an inspiring example of the “Lakhpati Didi” initiative through diversified farming and business activities.
Aparna has effectively utilized various livelihood opportunities to build multiple sources of income. She cultivated 3,000 sweet corn plants and 2,000 normal corn plants, while also undertaking poly house farming on two ganda of land with support from the Agriculture Department. In addition, she cultivated taro root (kachu) on one kani of land and chili on two ganda.

The first harvest of 1,000 sweet corn plants earned her approximately ₹65,000, while harvesting of the remaining 2,000 plants is yet to be completed. She also earned around ₹10,000 from coriander cultivation and currently maintains three additional coriander beds.
Her agricultural ventures have yielded significant returns in recent years. Last year, she earned about ₹1.5 lakh from capsicum cultivation and nearly ₹80,000 from yellow watermelon farming. Besides agriculture, Aparna successfully operates a fertilizer shop, generating a monthly income of around ₹20,000 to ₹25,000.

With fertilizer-related training provided by the Agriculture Department, she has strengthened her farming enterprise, diversified her income streams, and achieved financial self-reliance. Encouraged by her success, Aparna now plans to expand her livelihood activities by availing a higher loan and has sought support under Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) convergence programmes for setting up an additional poly house.
Her success story highlights the positive impact of Self-Help Groups, government support, and sustainable livelihood initiatives in empowering rural women and promoting entrepreneurship in Tripura.
