Mizoram has reported one dengue-related death between January 1 and October 8, 2024, according to the state’s Health Department. This fatality adds to the seven lives claimed by the virus in the state from 2019 to 2023.
A total of 6,710 blood samples were tested, revealing 449 positive dengue cases. Aizawl West accounted for the majority of cases, with 2,496 blood samples collected and 168 testing positive, including one death. Aizawl East reported 109 dengue cases from 1,958 blood samples.
Other districts also reported positive cases: Lunglei (149), Mamit and Champhai (seven each), Serchhip and Kolasib (three each), and Lawngtlai and Siaha (one each). Additionally, one person from outside the state was diagnosed with dengue.
This update comes amid a global surge in dengue cases, with over 7.6 million reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2024, including 3.4 million confirmed cases and over 3,000 deaths.
