Agartala, November 20, 2024: Employees of the Tripura’s Forest Department on Wednesday staged a one-day strike to demand regular salaries, citing prolonged deprivation of wages. The protest highlighted the financial struggles faced by the department’s workforce.
An employee revealed that 363 workers are currently employed in the Forest Department, with many having served for 15 to 20 years. Despite their long tenure, they earn a monthly salary of just Rs 12,000, which is insufficient to support their families.
The employee further stated that financial approval for their pay scale was granted by the government seven years ago. However, the official implementation of the scale has yet to materialize. Repeated appeals to officials, including the Minister and the Chief Minister, have gone unanswered.
Frustrated by the lack of action, the employees resorted to a one-day work stoppage. They are urging the government to ensure the timely payment of their salaries and implement the approved pay scale without further delay.
