Dibrugarh, Dec 24: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a ₹300-crore project to build a modern residential colony for the medical staff at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. This project will replace the outdated staff quarters, benefiting professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and other personnel.
Sarma made the announcement during his visit to AMCH on Tuesday, where he conducted a review meeting with college authorities, including Principal Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati. The meeting, which was also attended by MLA Prasanta Phukan and MP Rameshwar Teli, discussed ongoing developments and future plans for the college.
Principal Dr. Kakati expressed satisfaction with the improvements made since Sarma’s last visit in 2022. He stated that the residential colony would be constructed in phases to ensure minimal disruption to the staff’s duties. A model of the proposed colony will be presented for approval, and construction will begin once it is cleared. Sarma assured that he would return to AMCH in January 2026 to assess the progress of the project.
During his visit, Chief Minister Sarma also directed Chabua MLA Ponakan Barua to oversee the health of Mukundananda Chandra Goswami, the Satradhikar of Sri Sri Mayamara Dinjay Satra, who is currently receiving treatment in the ICU at AMCH. Sarma also announced financial assistance for Goswami’s treatment.
