Imphal, May 12: Constable Deepak Chingakham, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Manipur, has been martyred after succumbing to injuries sustained in a cross-border firing incident along the international border in RS Pura, Jammu division. The incident occurred during the night of May 9-10 as part of Operation Sindoor. Chingakham, 25, was critically injured in the exchange of fire with Pakistan Rangers and succumbed to his wounds on May 11, 2025.
The BSF paid tribute to Chingakham on X, calling him a “braveheart” and honoring his supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Jammu, Paloura, to pay respects to the fallen soldier.
The international border (IB) and line of control (LoC), which had seen heightened tension and incidents of shelling and drone activity until May 10, witnessed relative calm after 4:40 AM on May 11, with only one reported instance of small arms firing along the LoC in Uri later in the day.
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh hailed Chingakham’s sacrifice, calling him a “proud son of Manipur” and praising his courage and dedication to the nation.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his condolences for the death of BSF Sub-Inspector Imtiaz, a native of Saran district, and announced an ex-gratia payment for his family.
