Tripura: Five Minor Girls Rescued from Child Labour at Belonia

Agartala, January 22, 2026: Officials from the Belonia South District Labour Department led by officer Shakti Debbarma in collaboration with members of the Social Justice wing of the Organization for Rural Survival conducted a joint raid and rescued five minor girls engaged in construction work at Hrishyamukh area of Belonia subdivision.

According to officials, all five rescued children are girls aged between 13 and 16 years, hailing from Hetalia village under Rajnagar block. Authorities expressed concern that the victims were brought into hazardous labour at such a young age.

Labour officer Shakti Debbarma stated that a labour contractor named Nirmal Tripura from Matai area had engaged the minors in construction activities. He confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against the contractor under labour laws.

For their safety, the rescued girls have been placed at the Belonia Sakhi One Stop Centre. The administration has assured that the matter is being investigated thoroughly and that campaigns against child labour will be intensified in the region.
