Agartala, March 09, 2026: C. P. Radhakrishnan, the Vice President of India, on Sunday praised Tripura University for emerging as a vibrant centre of teaching, research and innovation while addressing the university’s 14th Convocation Ceremony in Agartala.

The Vice President arrived in Tripura on Saturday to attend the convocation programme held on the university campus. Addressing graduating students, faculty members and parents, he said the ceremony reflected a strong sense of achievement and pride among the students and their families.

“This is my very first visit to Tripura after becoming the Vice President of India. Over the past two days, I have been travelling through the beautiful states of Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. I am very happy to be here in Tripura, a land of glorious heritage,” he said.

Radhakrishnan also shared his conversation with the Governor of the state, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, who described Tripura as a small state rich in culture and traditions.

“From ancient temples to vibrant tribal customs and festivals, Tripura presents a harmonious blend of royalty, spirituality and indigenous culture,” the Vice President said. He added that he visited the revered Tripura Sundari Temple earlier in the day and appreciated the development work being carried out there through the joint efforts of the state and central governments.

Highlighting the progress of Tripura University, he said it was encouraging to see the institution steadily growing in academic and research excellence.

“It is deeply satisfying to observe that Tripura University has emerged as a vibrant centre of teaching, research and innovation. Education should not stop with degrees alone; it must continue through research that ultimately leads to innovation,” he said.

The Vice President commended the university for its increasing number of high-quality research publications, growing funded research projects and the development of a strong culture of intellectual property creation. He also noted that participation in national research platforms indicates the university’s expanding presence in India’s academic landscape.

“I am told that faculty members from this institution are among globally recognised researchers, and the university has produced distinguished alumni working in various fields. I am confident that many more success stories will emerge from here,” he said.

Radhakrishnan also highlighted the transformation taking place in the northeastern region, noting that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, significant efforts have been made in the past decade to unlock the region’s potential through improved infrastructure and connectivity.

“Once upon a time, travelling from Agartala to Chennai was extremely difficult. Today, with improved connectivity and infrastructure, such journeys can be completed within the same day,” he added.

The Vice-President Radhakrishnan was accompanied by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shyamal Das and others.
