The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has initiated a five-day cultural orientation programme designed to familiarise its personnel with the language, traditions and heritage of Sikkim. The training, which commenced on Monday at the 13th Battalion ITBP headquarters, aims to strengthen the understanding of local culture among troops posted in the Himalayan state.
Deputy Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh of the ITBP Sector Headquarters, Gangtok, attended the inaugural session. According to an official statement, 40 personnel drawn from the 11th, 13th, 48th and 63rd Battalions are participating in the programme. The sessions are being conducted by experts from the Department of Culture, Government of Sikkim, who will provide insights into the state’s linguistic and cultural landscape.
The initiative reflects ITBP’s commitment to fostering cultural awareness among its personnel, ensuring that those deployed in Sikkim are better equipped to engage with local communities and respect the traditions of the region.
