Agartala, June 08, 2026: With demand for Tripura’s organic agricultural products witnessing steady growth across domestic and international markets, the state government is intensifying efforts to boost production, strengthen marketing networks, and enhance farmers’ income, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Monday.

The Minister made the remarks after chairing a high-level review meeting on the production, marketing, and market expansion of organic agricultural produce under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) project at the Tripura State Agricultural Research Centre in Arundhutinagar, Agartala.

During the programme, Nath interacted with organic farmers and representatives of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) from different parts of the state. He listened to their experiences and discussed challenges, opportunities, and strategies for expanding organic cultivation.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasized that the government’s primary objective is not only to increase agricultural production but also to ensure higher earnings for farmers through value-added organic farming.

“Before 2018, there were only two Farmer Producer Companies in the state. Today, that number has grown to 53. Alongside protecting soil health, we are promoting organic farming to help double farmers’ income,” he said.

He highlighted that Tripura is focusing on the cultivation of several high-demand organic products, including Kalikhasa rice, Harinarayan rice, scented lemon, Queen and Kew pineapple, bird’s eye chilli, ginger, and sesame. According to him, growing consumer preference for chemical-free produce has created strong market demand for these products.

Nath revealed that organic products worth nearly Rs 17 crore have already been exported from Tripura to various parts of India and overseas markets. He also flagged off a consignment of 1,000 premium Queen pineapples destined for Delhi and announced that the state would observe International Pineapple Day in Delhi on June 27 to further promote Tripura’s signature fruit.

The Minister further informed that a Rs 234-crore project, supported by the Central Government and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), is being implemented to strengthen processing, marketing, and value-chain infrastructure for organic products.

As part of the event, one metric tonne of premium-quality Queen pineapple produced by Bokhari Organic Producers of Mandai was flagged off for New Delhi. Agriculture Department Secretary Apurba Roy, Tripura Organic Mission Mission Director Rajib Debbarma and other officials were present.
