In a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), seized 4 lakh Yaba tablets valued at approximately ₹47 crore and apprehended one suspected drug trafficker in Manipur’s Jiribam district.

According to officials, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of narcotics within the district. Acting on the information, the joint team conducted an operation at Leingangpokpi on June 4 and intercepted a Tata vehicle suspected of being used for drug trafficking.

During the operation, security personnel apprehended one individual, a resident of Bihar, who was allegedly transporting the contraband consignment. A total of 4,00,000 Yaba tablets were recovered from the vehicle, which was subsequently seized.

The apprehended individual, along with the seized narcotics and vehicle, has been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings. Investigation into the case is currently underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the consignment and to identify other members of the trafficking network.

Officials said Assam Rifles, Jiribam Police and other security agencies operating in the district have been consistently conducting anti-narcotics operations to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks. The latest seizure is being viewed as a significant success in the ongoing campaign against the illegal drug trade in the region.

Security agencies reiterated their commitment to intensifying efforts against narcotics smuggling and ensuring that those involved in the illicit trade are brought to justice.
