Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president and MLA-elect from Bokakhat, Atul Bora, on Wednesday expressed satisfaction with his party’s performance in the Assam Assembly elections, attributing the outcome to the developmental initiatives carried out under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership. Bora stated that the government had undertaken extensive work for the state and credited Sarma’s tireless efforts over the past five years as a driving force behind Assam’s progress.

He announced that the AGP will hold its first legislative party meeting with the newly elected MLAs, noting that six of them are new faces. Bora emphasised that the Chief Minister’s contribution was pivotal to the party’s success.

While celebrating the electoral gains, Bora also drew attention to the challenge of infiltration, describing it as a pressing concern for Assam’s indigenous population. He warned that the fear of becoming a minority persists as infiltrators from Bangladesh continue to pose demographic pressures.

Earlier, Bora had Emphasised that the electorate voted in favour of development under Sarma’s leadership. The AGP secured 10 seats this time, compared to nine in the previous Assembly polls.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) registered a decisive victory in Assam, with the BJP winning 82 seats, surpassing the majority mark of 64. Its allies, AGP and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), each secured 10 seats. The Congress, despite its alliance with five other parties, managed only 19 seats.

The results also marked a historic moment for the BJP, which is set to form its first government in West Bengal while achieving a third consecutive term in Assam.
