Guwahati, Oct 31: The much-awaited film Roi Roi Binale (Tears Still Flow), the last cinematic appearance of beloved singer-composer Zubeen Garg, opened to packed theatres across Assam on Friday.
The first screening began as early as 4:25 a.m. at a Guwahati multiplex, where fans queued up to watch their cherished star on the big screen one final time. Shows started in the morning across major cities of the state, coinciding with its nationwide release.
All shows for the next week are already sold out, and the film is expected to break previous box office records for Assamese cinema. To meet soaring demand, most theatres have scheduled up to seven shows daily, running late into the night. In the film, Garg plays a blind musician in a story that portrays the struggles of an artist. It features 11 songs, all composed by Garg himself. The trailer’s haunting scene of his character lying unconscious on a beach has evoked strong emotions, coinciding eerily with the singer’s real-life death while swimming in Singapore on September 19.
Produced by Garg along with his wife Garima and Shyamantak Gautam, Roi Roi Binale is directed by Rajesh Bhuyan and runs for 146 minutes. The Assam cabinet recently announced that the government’s share of GST revenue from the movie will be donated to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation, founded by Garg to support underprivileged artists.
