A 32-year-old man allegedly attempted to self-immolate outside Lok Bhavan in Imphal on Thursday, expressing anguish over the recent deadly bomb attack in Tronglaobi. The attempt was foiled by alert security personnel, who intervened in time and detained him.

The individual has been identified as Sinam Appollo, a resident of Mayang Langjing in Imphal West district and an advocate by profession. According to sources, the incident took place around 1 pm when he arrived near Lok Bhavan in a vehicle.

Eyewitnesses and officials stated that Appollo poured kerosene over himself in an apparent bid to set himself on fire. Security personnel stationed at the site acted swiftly to restrain him and prevent the act. During the intervention, he reportedly urged authorities not to stop him.

A team of City Police later reached the spot and took him into custody for further questioning. No injuries were reported.

The incident is believed to have been triggered by anger and distress over the bomb attack in Tronglaobi on April 7, which claimed innocent lives. The episode highlights growing public anguish and frustration over the continuing violence in the region.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
