The Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD), Government of Manipur, along with the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), on Friday held a press conference at the IOCL Imphal Divisional Office in Chingmeirong to address concerns over fuel availability.
Director of CAF&PD, K. Bono, urged the public to refrain from panic buying of petroleum products and LPG cylinders, stating that adequate stock is available in the state. He acknowledged that the ongoing situation in the Middle East has impacted global petroleum markets, but assured that India has managed the situation effectively through planned stock management and imports from multiple countries, keeping the impact minimal in Manipur.
He informed that monitoring committees headed by Additional Deputy Commissioners and District Supply Officers have been set up in every district to ensure timely supply and distribution of LPG cylinders. Daily quotas are being delivered to distributors, while surprise inspections have so far found no cases of malpractice.
Highlighting priority measures, the Director said the government has ensured full LPG and PNG supply to the education and health sectors. Additionally, 13 agencies have been identified to supply 5 kg Free Trade LPG cylinders to migrant workers as a special arrangement.
Reiterating that there is no shortage, the Director appealed to the public not to believe in rumours that may trigger unnecessary panic buying, and assured strict action against any irregularities in distribution.
The press meet was also attended by PIB Regional Director Dr. Engam Pame, IOCL Senior Depot Manager N. Kashung, and CAF&PD OSD Bobby Haobam.
