Manipur Police, Security Forces Seize Brown Sugar And Opium In Separate Operations; Six Arrested

In a series of anti-narcotics operations conducted across Manipur, police and security forces arrested six persons and seized suspected brown sugar and opium from different districts.

On June 5, 2026, Manipur Police arrested two persons during a mobile vehicle checking point (MVCP) operation at Vajing village under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district. The arrested individuals were identified as Paominthang Haokip (44) of Haika village in Chandel district and Isla Uddin (37) of Kwakta Ward No. 8 in Bishnupur district. Police seized 1.423 kg of suspected contraband brown sugar from their possession.

In another operation on June 7, 2026, Manipur Police arrested two persons at the Singngat Police Station check post in Churachandpur district. The arrested individuals were identified as K. Pauchinsuan (57) of CYA Road, Gouchinkhup Veng, New Lamka, currently residing at Mata Mualtam village, and Tuahmawi (42) of Mata Mualtam village, Churachandpur district.

During the operation, police seized a Bolero vehicle bearing registration number MZ01P8655 and 107 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing 5.143 kg, including the weight of the plastic wrapping and soap cases. The actual contraband content is estimated to be around 1.4 kg of brown sugar. Some incriminating items were also recovered.

Meanwhile, on the same day, security forces arrested two persons at T. Khullen naka post under Senapati Police Station in Senapati district. The arrested individuals were identified as Man Bahadur Bhattarai (24) of Bajaghara village, Irang Part-II, Kangpokpi district, and co-driver Ajay Baniya (22) of Kharpani village, Irang Part-II, Kangpokpi district.
Security personnel recovered 28.190 kg of suspected opium, one Bolero pickup vehicle bearing registration number AS05AC9494 along with its key, a purse containing Rs. 5,000 in cash, and other incriminating items from their possession.

Further investigation into the cases is underway.
