Manipur Police on Monday seized a large consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and detained a truck driver during a routine operation in Imphal West district.
According to police sources, the interception was carried out at Keithelmanbi area under the jurisdiction of Patsoi Police Station. The truck, bearing registration number MN05C-3481, was driven by Ahongshangbam Thenden Singh (55) of Khaidem Awang Leikai.
During inspection, police recovered 1,200 cases of IMFL from the vehicle, which was allegedly being transported illegally. The driver was detained on the spot, while the truck along with the seized liquor was taken into police custody.
Police have launched further investigation to trace the source and destination of the consignment and to ascertain whether the seizure is connected to a larger liquor smuggling network. Legal proceedings under relevant sections of the law have been initiated, police added
