As India marks its 79th Independence Day in 2025, the District Child Protection Unit of Ukhrul, under the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, organised a special programme for underprivileged children at Eden Resource Home, Lanai Tang, Ukhrul.

Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Asish Das, IAS, attended as the special guest and distributed gifts including tracksuits, T-shirts, sports equipment, and stationery items to 121 children. The event also featured the unveiling of posters highlighting key child-related legislations such as the POCSO Act, Child Marriage Prohibition Act, Child Labour laws, and awareness on ‘Good Touch vs Bad Touch.’
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised that children are the future of the nation and that any form of exploitation or abuse will not be tolerated. He urged the concerned departments and stakeholders to work with compassion and dedication in safeguarding children’s rights.

Ukhrul district currently has four child care institutions — Eden Resource Home, Destitute Children Home, BDS Open Shelter Home, and Luiva Care (SAA) Specialised Adoption Agency.
