Shillong, May 6: The Meghalaya government has approached the High Court seeking cancellation of bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her husband Raja during their honeymoon in Sohra in May 2025. The plea challenges the April 27 order of the Sessions Court, which released Sonam on bail citing defects in her arrest documentation.

During the hearing, Justice Wanlura Diengdoh noted that the Advocate General Amit Kumar, representing the State, urged the High Court to quash the lower court’s order and revoke Sonam’s bail. The court has issued notice to Sonam, with the matter scheduled for further hearing on May 12.

Sonam’s bail was granted under strict conditions, including a personal bond of ₹50,000 with two sureties, mandatory court attendance, restrictions on travel outside jurisdiction without permission, and a prohibition against tampering with evidence or witnesses.

Sonam, accused of masterminding Raja’s murder just days after their marriage on May 11, 2025, was arrested along with four co-accused—Raj Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Singh Chauhan—from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in June 2025. The Meghalaya Police later filed a 790-page chargesheet on September 6, 2025, before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Sohra, framing charges under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
