Mizoram: ECI Secretary Holds Review Meeting on Electoral Roll Revision in Aizawl

Aizawl, May 26: Election Commission of India (ECI) Secretary Binod Kumar convened a review meeting this afternoon at DC Pisa Pui Hall to assess Aizawl District’s preparedness for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The session brought together the District Election Officer (DEO), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs, Supervisors, and Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Kumar emphasized that the meeting was not only to evaluate progress but also to address doubts and challenges faced by officials. He issued detailed instructions on procedures, stressing that the SIR 2026 is a nationwide exercise aimed at ensuring clean and accurate electoral rolls. He urged officials to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, transparency, and diligence, and directed that enumeration forms be distributed within five days.

Aizawl DEO Er. Lalhriatpuia presented a comprehensive update through a PowerPoint presentation, noting that the district currently comprises 12 Assembly Constituencies and 324 polling stations, which will rise to 359 after rationalization. The district has 2,92,635 registered voters, including 1,36,654 men and 1,55,981 women, compared to 1,33,658 voters in 2005. Already, 2,18,623 electors have been mapped, representing 74.71 percent, and 5,85,270 enumeration forms have been printed.

Following the meeting, Kumar visited the polling station at Government Middle School, Zemabawk West. He was accompanied by Vijay Gupta, Section Officer, ECI.
