Mizoram’s Lalenthangi Hnamte, popularly known as Maeni, has been honoured with the National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award for her exceptional service in grassroots healthcare. Currently serving at the Health and Wellness Centre in Lunglei district, Hnamte received the award from President Droupadi Murmu during the International Nurses Day ceremony in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The award, regarded as one of the country’s highest recognitions for nursing professionals, includes a certificate of honour, a medal, and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh. Hnamte was commended for her dedication, compassion, and contribution to public health delivery at the community level.
Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh extended his congratulations, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the state. “This esteemed recognition honours her outstanding dedication, compassion and selfless service in the field of public health. Being selected among only 15 awardees from across the entire country is a proud moment for our state,” he said. Singh added that Hnamte’s accomplishment stands as an inspiration to healthcare workers across India.
