Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has clarified that no permanent construction will be permitted on Lumpondeng Island at Umiam.
Addressing public concerns, he rejected claims that the island would be converted into a concrete structure, stating that such reports are inaccurate.
He said only temporary structures will be allowed in order to prevent any negative environmental impact in the area.
He further noted that the Forest Department has granted the required “Consent to Establish and Operate” for specific sections, while the Tourism Department has maintained that no permanent buildings will be permitted on the site.
