Agartala, April 27, 2026: The India Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for several districts of Tripura, warning of storms, rain, and lightning over the next two days.
According to the department, many parts of the state are likely to experience moderate to severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and in some isolated areas, heavy rainfall. The alert will remain in effect until April 29.
The districts of Khowai district and West Tripura district are expected to be the worst affected, with stormy winds likely to reach speeds of 50 to 60 km per hour. Meteorologists have cautioned that isolated heavy downpours in these areas may further aggravate the situation.
In response, disaster management teams have been placed on standby, and local administrations have been directed to remain on high alert, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Measures have been put in place to ensure swift response in case of emergencies.
Meanwhile, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for the remaining parts of the state, where thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected, though with comparatively lower intensity.
The Meteorological Department noted that such weather conditions are typical during the pre-monsoon season. However, this time the intensity of winds and lightning activity is expected to be higher. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement, stay away from open spaces during storms, and follow official safety guidelines.
With the Orange Alert in place, the state is bracing for a spell of turbulent weather over the coming days.
