Agartala, April 11, 2026: Campaigning for the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) ended at 4 pm on Friday, setting the stage for polling on April 12, officials said.

A total of 9,62,697 voters — including 4,82,025 men, 4,80,666 women and six from the third gender — are eligible to exercise their franchise across 28 constituencies. As many as 173 candidates from the BJP, Tipra Motha, Left Front, Congress, IPFT and other parties are in the fray.

The elections are expected to witness a multi-cornered contest, officials said.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has put in place elaborate arrangements to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling, according to an official release.

To strengthen security, 24 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed across the state. “Their deployment will significantly enhance security arrangements before, during and after the polling process,” the Commission said.

Police authorities have also taken comprehensive steps to maintain law and order during the campaign period.

The SEC said necessary directions have been issued to ensure a level playing field for all candidates. Returning Officers have been instructed to coordinate with civil and police officials to facilitate the movement of polling personnel to their respective polling stations.

Around 3,500 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), received from the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission, have undergone first-level checking and commissioning. The machines are now stored in strong rooms under tight security and are ready for use.

The Commission said postal ballot facilitation has been completed across all sub-divisions with a turnout of 97 per cent, while the remaining ballots have been dispatched to voters through postal services.

Area domination exercises and flag marches are being carried out regularly by district officials and police to instill confidence among voters.

Authorities have imposed restrictions under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Representation of the People Act from 4 pm on April 10 to 6 am on April 13 to maintain public order.

The Commission has also enforced the mandatory 48-hour silence period, during which no campaigning or election-related content can be published or broadcast through any media platform.

Polling personnel will begin movement from April 11 under security cover, with deployment expected to be completed by 4 pm the same day. Basic facilities have been arranged at polling stations for voters and staff, officials said.

The SEC has also specified alternative photo identity documents, including Aadhaar, PAN, passport and others, for voters who do not possess EPIC cards.

Videography of all critical stages of the electoral process has been mandated to ensure transparency.

Counting of votes will take place on April 17, with trained personnel and ECIL engineers deployed at counting centres to ensure smooth and timely declaration of results, the Commission added.
