Agartala, April 13, 2026: In a significant move to boost the rural economy while preserving traditional heritage, a women-led digital “e-Haat” platform has been launched. The initiative aims to link rural artisans, folk artists, and farmers directly with global markets through digital means. Described as a journey “from soil to screen,” the platform aspires to bring international recognition to grassroots creativity and labour.

The e-Haat facilitates direct interaction between producers and buyers, removing intermediaries and ensuring fair pricing for artisans. It also creates broader opportunities to showcase India’s rich folk traditions on a global stage. The entrepreneurs behind the initiative expressed optimism that many rural talents will soon gain international exposure through their craftsmanship.

Beyond artisans, the platform is expected to benefit farmers by enabling them to sell surplus produce online, thereby opening new income streams and enhancing financial security. With seamless digital transactions and communication, the e-Haat serves as a vital bridge between rural producers and modern consumers.

Technology remains central to this transformation, blending innovation with tradition. By taking rural art, culture, and agricultural produce to wider audiences, the initiative is poised to contribute to both economic development and global appreciation of local heritage.

Meanwhile, addressing a long-pending demand in Tripura, OPD and IPD services have commenced at the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital. Specialist consultations are currently available in the OPD at a nominal fee of ₹10 from Monday to Saturday (9 AM onwards). Supported by the state government, construction of a 650-bed hospital is underway, which is expected to be expanded into an 1,100-bed super-speciality facility, informed college president Malay Pit.

Significantly, the hospital will be entirely managed by women entrepreneurs, marking a strong step towards women’s empowerment in the healthcare sector.

In another development, the institution has announced a postgraduate medical entrance coaching programme starting May 28, 2026. Around 100 MBBS graduates will be selected through an online interview process conducted via Google Meet.

Additionally, in collaboration with Apollo Specialty Hospital, a cardiac care camp will be held from May 8 to May 10 under the supervision of noted cardiologist Dr. Yathin Puranik. The initiative is expected to enhance access to advanced cardiac care and strengthen healthcare services in the state.
