Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced a significant breakthrough in the state’s anti-narcotics drive after Cachar police intercepted a vehicle during a routine naka check and seized 60,000 Yaba tablets.

The consignment, which the police estimate would fetch about Rs 18 crore in the black market, was recovered following the targeted operation. Authorities said the seizure dealt a major blow to organised drug trafficking networks operating in the region.

“The drug mafia may innovate, but so will Assam Police,” the Chief Minister said, praising the vigilance and quick action of law enforcement teams involved in the operation. Police have launched further investigations to trace the supply chain and arrest those responsible for transporting and distributing the drugs.
