Guwahati, July 3: Assam Police have summoned a television news anchor and Shrishti Raghuvanshi, cousin of murdered Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, in connection with alleged defamatory remarks made about the Kamakhya temple during a live broadcast.

The controversy arose during a televised interview where the anchor, while discussing Raja Raghuvanshi’s disappearance in Meghalaya, claimed that human sacrifice (“nar bali”) takes place at the Kamakhya temple. Shrishti Raghuvanshi reportedly supported the claim on air.

Police officials stated that the comments were baseless and lacked any religious, historical, or factual evidence. The Guwahati Crime Branch summoned both individuals for questioning on June 23 and 24. However, neither appeared before authorities.

An FIR has been registered for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Following the backlash, both the news channel and Shrishti Raghuvanshi issued public apologies, calling the remarks a “complete error of judgment.”

The Kamakhya temple, located in Guwahati, is a significant Hindu religious site, and the comments drew strong criticism from various religious and social groups.
