The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, R.M. Kurbah, has imposed a night curfew along the Indo-Bangladesh border, citing the likelihood of cross-border movement by militants, smugglers, and other illegal elements.
The curfew, effective immediately, will be in force from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM within a one-kilometre radius from the Zero Line (International Border). It prohibits unauthorized movement intending to cross the border, gatherings of five or more people carrying weapons, and illegal activities including smuggling of cattle, contraband goods, betel leaves, dry fish, bidis, and cigarettes.
The order, issued on 25th November 2025, will remain in effect for two months. Authorities warned that certain portions of the East Khasi Hills border remain porous and prone to infiltration, which could threaten peace and security in the district.
